Yellow Bridge Replacement

Status: ✓ Completed — July 2026

About the Project

The Yellow Bridge is an important part of the walking trail through Yellow Bridge Park, carrying pedestrians safely over the storm water ditch below. Over time, the wooden bridge had deteriorated. Deck planks were beginning to rot and the structural supports beneath the bridge were sagging.

An opportunity to give the bridge a much needed replacement arrived through a wonderful partnership with Scout Troop 1540 and Eagle Scout candidate Jacob McDonald.

What We Did

Jacob evaluated the project needs and developed a new bridge design for the Board's consideration. Following Board approval, Jacob and a team of volunteers began construction on July 11.

Day 1 - Construction

The old bridge was completely demolished on the first day. When the team encountered an unexpected challenge during demolition, a Parkwood East Board volunteer joined the effort to help keep the project moving. By the end of the following day, the new bridge was installed and ready for the community.

The replacement includes:

  • Reinforced structural support beneath the bridge.

  • A properly prepared gravel foundation designed to help protect the structure and extend the life of its materials.

  • New decking throughout.

  • A short safety rail along the storm water ditch.

Project Complete

Thanks to Jacob and Scout Troop 1540, Yellow Bridge Park now has a stronger and safer bridge built to serve the neighborhood for years to come. And we're not quite finished giving this little landmark some love! We'd like to repaint the familiar Yellow Bridge mural in the future and bring some color back to this special corner of Parkwood East.
