Blue Oak Playground Improvements
Status: Planning & Interim Repairs
About the Project
Blue Oak Park is at the heart of the Parkwood East community, and we'd like its playground to reflect that. Our long term goal is to completely overhaul the aging playground and create a more modern, accessible and inclusive play space for neighborhood families.
While we explore funding and replacement opportunities, we're also working to repair and improve the existing playground so it can continue serving the community.
What's Planned
Several components of the existing playground are damaged, missing or due for improvement. Our current priorities include:
Replacing the damaged 6-foot yellow slide, which has developed a large hole and additional cracking.
Replacing a damaged panel with a new activity panel.
Replacing the missing captain's wheel.
Improving the entrance to the yellow slide, where the existing gating can make access difficult for children of different sizes.
Longer term, we'd like to replace the aging playground with a more modern design that provides better accessibility and more inclusive opportunities for play.
Where We Are Now
The damaged section of the yellow slide has been temporarily patched while we pursue a permanent solution. We've researched and priced a replacement slide and are continuing to explore other options for upgrading the playground.
We're also looking into opportunities to acquire gently used playground equipment through the local school district when equipment becomes available through school improvement and modernization projects.
Next Step: Continue exploring replacement equipment, funding opportunities and interim repairs.
Long-Term Goal: A complete modernization of the Blue Oak playground with greater accessibility and inclusive play opportunities.
