Hickory Place Park - Basketball Court Repair
Status: Planning
About the Project
The basketball court at Hickory Loop Park has served the neighborhood for many years, but its aging asphalt surface is now showing significant deterioration. The surface is uneven and cracks have spread throughout the court. The court is also missing its playing lines and the existing basketball hoops are not properly aligned with one another. While temporary repairs have helped keep the court usable in the short term, we're beginning to plan for a more permanent solution.
What's Planned
Our long term goal is to replace the deteriorated asphalt and restore the area as a functional sport court for the community. As part of our planning, we've requested contractor pricing for a full sport court replacement. A future project would give us the opportunity to address the failing surface as well as the layout and markings of the court, creating a safer place to play.
Where We Are Now
Some smaller improvements have already helped extend the life of the existing court. The basketball nets have been replaced and a community volunteer previously cleaned the court before filling some of the damaged areas with cold-patch asphalt as a temporary repair.
We've now taken the next step by obtaining contractor pricing for a full replacement of the sport court. This will help the Board evaluate the scope and cost of a permanent improvement.
Next Step: Review the contractor estimate and determine the best path forward for funding and replacement.
Long Term Goal: A renewed, properly laid out sport court that can continue serving neighborhood families for years to come.
