A Little Rain, a Lot of Learning!

Looking Back at Our Know Your Weeds Workshop

A little Pacific Northwest rain wasn't going to stop us! On Saturday, October 17, Parkwood East welcomed representatives from the Kitsap County Noxious Weed Control Board to Blue Oak Park for our first Know Your Weeds community workshop. We were joined by neighborhood residents who came out to learn more about the plants growing in our yards, parks, and shared green spaces.

Getting to Know Our Unwelcome Guests

Not every plant growing in our neighborhood is necessarily a welcome addition! Our workshop focused on recognizing common noxious weeds, understanding why certain invasive plants can become problematic, and exploring practical ways to manage them. From identifying troublesome plants to learning about control methods, safe disposal, and local resources, the workshop offered an opportunity to become a little more familiar with our neighborhood's less welcome greenery.

A Big Thank-You!

We'd like to extend a special thank-you to Jade and Daria from the Kitsap County Noxious Weed Control Board for sharing their time and expertise with our community. We also appreciate the neighbors who joined us and our HOA volunteers who helped bring everything together. Community workshops like this are a wonderful reminder that caring for our neighborhood doesn't always mean picking up a shovel. Sometimes, it starts with learning something new!

If you missed this one, don't worry! We plan to continue looking for opportunities to connect our neighbors with helpful local resources and educational programs.

Here’s to a greener, healthier Parkwood East—one weed at a time!
